    3. Hello Susan (and Angela) Can I add my tuppence worth? I think the most likely candidate is Gertrude (full name Gertrude Harriet E Hagues). Of the children Angela mentions in the 1881 census, Martha Ann marries Frederick W Scott in 1881 (from FreeBMD and YorkshireBMD) so the children can't be hers; James Frederick (not Frank) would only have been about 15 or 16 years old when Ann was born so although possible, its unlikely (and wouldn't the child have stayed with the mother?). So the obvious candidate is Gertrude and given that she is still living with her parents in 1891 and the children are also there makes it more feasible. From the 1861 & 1871 census, there don't appear to be any more children who could possibly be the mother/father. Gertrude married John Watson Coates in Sculcoates Register Office in 1893 (FreeBMD, YorkshireBMD & 1901 Census). If Ann IS the daughter of Gertrude then presumably John didn't want another man's child in the house because Ann Coates is still living with her grandparents in 1901 (in Cottingham) ~ transcribed as HAGNES an Ancestry. Arthur Coates died aged 3 in 1891. James Frederick Hagues married Alice A Clark in 1896. Hope this helps! I can send you copies of the census returns off-list if you want them. 1. Free bmd-births
    2. I found a Mary Ann Varian from Ancestry.com FreeBMD index but it did not give me a page number. What I do have is: Mary Ann Varian, birth, quarter: 1848, district: blank, county: Middlesex Surrey, Volume 4. I would like to order a Birth Cert from _www.1837online.com_ (http://www.1837online.com) for this person but I need to know the page number. Also, would the County be Middlesex and the District Surrey? Thanks, Jackie
