Here is the next instalment of titles from my bookshelf of second hand books on Norfolk local history, this time books of photographs: 'Norfolk at Work' by Neil Storey published by Sutton in 1997 (ISBN 0 7509 1455 6). About 300 photographs from around 1900 to 1950 covering most of the county: The Farming Year; Crafts & Trades; On the Roads; Fens, Waterways & Broads; The Railway; A Living from the Sea; Industry; Clerical & Educational; Construction & Public Works; Market Day & Shopping; Emergency Services; Workers at War; Workers' Playtime. 'A West Norfolk Camera' by Gordon Anckorn published by Ashgrove Press, Sevenoaks in 1981 (ISBN 0 906798 08 6). Covers King's Lynn, Dersingham & Sandringham, Snettisham, Sedgeford, Hunstanton, Wells and Wisbech from 1850 to 1950 with extra chapters on People, Farming, Railways and the paddle tug 'Pendennis'. My favourite because each photograph is accompanied by a little background to the event. 'Victorian and Edwardian Norfolk from Old Photographs', introduction and commentaries by Philip Hepworth published by Batsford in 1972 (ISBN 0 7134 0124 9). A really good introduction to photography and photographers in Norfolk followed by 150 pages of photographs covering City; Towns; Transport; The Coast; Shops and Markets; Country Houses; Work, Leisure and Repose; Country Pursuits; Broads and Rivers; Occasions; and Children. 'King's Lynn as it Was' by Michael Winton published by Hendon in 1972 (ISBN 0 902907 18 2). Nearly 50 photographs from Victorian times to First World War. 'Later Lynn' by Michael Winton published by Hindsight in 1989 (ISBN 1 871918 04 9). More photos of King's Lynn from 1950s to 1970s. 'Images of King's Lynn' by Trevor Heaton published by Eastern Daily Press in 1996 (ISBN 1 85983 052 8). 170 pages of photographs from the Eastern Daily Press recording events and changes in Lynn from the 1940s to the 1970s. 'Anglian Images' by Richard Tames published by Alan Sutton in 1991 (ISBN 0 86299 746 1). Some history of Norfolk Suffolk and Essex illustrated with 18th century engravings, Victorian sepia photos and contemporary colour photographs - 150 pages.
