Hello East Anglia, An 1881 Census entry (Census Place - Islington, London, Middlesex) gives the Birthplaces as :- Peterbo, Cambridge and Whittlesea, Cambridge. Three questions please:- 1) Am I safe with Peterbro being Peterborough or is there a chance of a Peterbro? 2) Whittlesea or Whittlesey? (The father was from Peterbro and wife and son from Whittlesea.) So can I take it that if Peterbro is Peterborough then the odds are that Whittlesea is Whittlesey? The geographical closeness points to this or is there a Whittlesea around somewhere? 3) Cambridge or Northampton for each or either? The map I have is a 1975/6 - New County Boundaries map, 10 miles to the inch and not too clear about the boundaries. Also 'Phillimore's show Peterborough in Northampton and Whittlesey in Cambridge as does the 'Parloc' parishes programme.
