Good morning all I have looked at this site for sometime now and perhaps it time to add my interests. My main interest is in the name of NEWMAN, being the UK secretary for the Newman Name Society. I live in the region and belong to both Felixstowe and Suffolk FHS. Perhaps we could help each other, by sending and receiving any references to the Newman name. Happy Easter Roberta Newman
Anyone interested in Howard of Tuttington, Johns of Norwich (formerly of Cornwall), Marjoram of Burlingham, and Seaman of Catton (and Barnby, Suffolk).
Many thanks to all the listers who have responded to the question I had on Hartismere. I never thought of it as being a district! Tina Researching HULL, TWIN, MARTIN, SAWARD, RAMSEY, DEACON

Tina, I cannot find an actual place called Hartismere now, but for certificates for ancestors born in the Hoxne registration district in the ninetheenth century I had to write to the Superintendent Registrar of the Gipping and Hartismere Registration District, in Stowmarket, Suffolk. This might not be of much help but at least you know the name wasn't plucked out of someone's imagination. Hello Pamela Directories are just that, forerunners of today's telephone directories and yellow pages. According to the 1900 Kelly's directory of Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, George MASON was a basket maker at 16 Ber street. At that time 3 & 5 Ber street were occupied by Curl brothers, drapers. The 1881 census is more informative for family details: Dwelling: Ber St Census Place: Norwich St Michael At Thorne, Norfolk, England Source: FHL Film 1341468 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 1943 Folio 43 Page 1 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Geo.
