Hi listers 'My Pretty's' come from Chediston in Suffolk, but knowing how the Ag Labs moved around in the 'old days', I wonder if anyone out there in East Anglia is related to my Suffolk family. My Grandfather Isaac PRETTY was born in Chediston Suffolk in 1869 His parents were William PRETTY (1829 1912) and Mary Ann CONSTANCE who was born in Wissett. William's father was - Isaac PRETTY (1802-1882) who married Harriet WARNER. They had the following children: Isaac PRETTY 1825 who married Caroline ? Elizabeth PRETTY 1833 who married Stephen SEWELL Sarah Ann Pretty 1836 Harriet PRETTY who married James HART Edward PRETTY 1841 who married M. Cleveland Charlotte Pretty 1845 who had a son called Frederick I am also very interested in looking for the CONSTANCE family of Wissett. Any connections? Diane in Essex England

I'm searching for the surname Borret/Borrett in Ireland or England. My husbands Great-Grandparent surname was Borret I understand that they were from Ireland and died at age of 56. Children Bessie, Ivy, Phyllis, Bell, Jack and Fred. Bessie is my husbands Grandmother she left Ireland after her parents died and moved to London where she met her husband Frederick Ernest Ripper they married and had 8 children June, Jeannette, Valerie, Roy, Ray, Pearl, Della and Eunice. Because they married after her parents passed know one knows their names. My mother-in-law has passed so I am having a hard time finding things on her family. I would appreciate any help. I am in Texas, USA so I really do not know where to search for family in other countries. Lorie Brewer
I admit i"m rather slow about some of this genealogy stuff, but could someone put me on the road to finding a death notice, say in Outwell area, or in Wisbech? Can I get into a register which would tell me this? Thanks, Faith

Dear Listers I am looking for a free look-up of the 1851 Census, Stow District, Suffolk to try and find a Thomas Cunnold who would have been about 34 years old. The records I have show his wife Caroline and his son, also named Thomas L, but not him. Any help appreciated. Regards Brenda
Hello East Anglia, An 1881 Census entry (Census Place - Islington, London, Middlesex) gives the Birthplaces as :- Peterbo, Cambridge and Whittlesea, Cambridge. Three questions please:- 1) Am I safe with Peterbro being Peterborough or is there a chance of a Peterbro? 2) Whittlesea or Whittlesey? (The father was from Peterbro and wife and son from Whittlesea.) So can I take it that if Peterbro is Peterborough then the odds are that Whittlesea is Whittlesey? The geographical closeness points to this or is there a Whittlesea around somewhere? 3) Cambridge or Northampton for each or either? The map I have is a 1975/6 - New County Boundaries map, 10 miles to the inch and not too clear about the boundaries. Also 'Phillimore's show Peterborough in Northampton and Whittlesey in Cambridge as does the 'Parloc' parishes programme. Best regards, Bob Hawkins, Perth, Western Australia. mailto:hawkinob@iprimus.com.au

Hi everyone I have a reference to one of my distant relatives as a 'traveller does any one know if this had the same meaning then, (mid nineteenth century) as today? If this is the case it would seem I have hit a dead end! I am researching the family name of York in Colchester Essex, any information regarding this would be appreciated. Daniel York Snr (traveller) deceased on Daniel York (jnr) wedding certificate of 1847. Daniel York (jnr) married Sarah Collins on Nov 28th 1847 at Holy Trinity Church Colchester. Daniel and Sarah are later described as Tailors. They have various children, I have yet to find if either Daniel had brothers or sisters. Many thanks Paul
Lollardy- `Lollard' was a name given to anyone associated with heresy in late medieval England. From the 1380s the church authorities gradually defined more tightly what counted as correct belief (orthodoxy). Heresy (or heterodoxy) was holding beliefs or participating in practices that contravened the teaching of the church. hope this helps a bit Donna ----- Original Message ----- From: "cave-kids" <shona@cave-kids.com> To: <ENG-EAST-ANGLIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 06, 2001 12:53 PM Subject: [EEA] Interpretation > Hi Everyone, > Back from a business trip and some part time research of a > family member of the Carmelite Church came across this. > Anyone got a long memory to tell me what LOLLARDY is? > I don't want to catch it - just an explanation.
