Hi listers, I am updating my BAALHAM (and variant) database once again, i am asking any list members if they have any : BAALAM, BAALHAM, BAALHUM, BALAAM, BALAHAM, BALAM, BALEHAM, BALHAM, BALLAAM, BALLAAM, BALLAM, BAYLAM or BAYLEHAM by marriage in their research? I am trying to collect all variants of the name. So far i have 3087 individuals and 1034 marriages and would be grateful for any information however small. The below names are spouses (and children) who are married to the above BAALHAMs (and variants). If you are researching the names below i only have them as spouses but will be willing to send you what i have in the database. These names are not necassarily my family as most may only be of interested to me because of their BAALHAM (and variants) connection. I am a new subscriber and need help trying to find living relatives of my Grandmother,Velvo GILES born around Ipswitch or maybe Woodbridge in 1887.She married a Walter Elsey.I never found her birth record. If anyone has info please contact me at susanc@attcanada.net
Hi to all on the list. I was out of state (Michigan) and did not have access to E.s for a month. Wow! There were over 500. Some I knew that I could delete but others like this list I wanted to be sure and read. What do you know, on 1 Feb 2001 our list admin. ask us to relist our searches. Melanie, I see you list BEAUMONT among several others. My great grandmother is Emma BEAUMONT, b. 15 July 1857 (She married Frederick G WILDEN b. 16 July 1861 and they lived on Church Walk, Stowmarked, Suffolk in 1887 when my gfather was born) She was born in Onehouse, Suffolk to Samuel BEAUMONT and Elizabeth SHEAD. Emma's parents lived in Onehouse, Stowmarket, and Bury St. Edmunds. Samuel BEAUMONT was born abt 1834 in Wormingford, Essex and his wife Elizabeth SHEAD abt. 1833 in Bures, Essex. Emma BEAUMONT WILDEN and her husband raised 7 sons and in the late 1890's ran the pub "Little Wellington" (across from the "Duke of Wellington") on Stoupland Rd in Stowmarket. They lived at 61 Regent St., Stowmarket when they both died on the same day. 24. Jan 1937. If there is any information anyone has to add to this, I would be so happy to hear from you. I have just received by return post my copy of 'Glimpses of Fiddaman's Lynn' by Rosemary & Stan Rodliffe so I may be a few days before my next posting. Here is the next instalment of titles from my bookshelf of second hand books on Norfolk local history, remembering that Heather and Geoff asked for anything about Brancaster: 'Crabs and Shannocks' by Peter Stibbons, Katherine Lee & Martin Warren published by Poppyland in 1983 (ISBN 0 946148 02 3). The lives of the longshore fishermen of North Norfolk, their boats and gear, homes and traditions, dressing a crab, and traditional ganseys. Cromer and Sheringham in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Families include: ABBS, ALLEN, ALLISON, BALLS, COX, DAVIES, HARRISON, JOHNSON, KIRBY, ROOK, SANDFORD, UPCHER, and WEST. 'Brancaster Staithe' by Maurice de Soissons published by Woodthorpe in 1993 (ISBN 0 9520907 0 8). The story of a straggling one-street village from ancient to modern times. 'The Holkham People' by Maurice de Soissons published by Woodthorpe in 1997 (ISBN 0 9520907 2 4). A super backdrop to the lives of estate employees, tenant farmers and labourers who turned Coke's agricultural vision into a reality. 'The Northenders - a disappeared community' by Patricia W. Midgley published in 1987 (ISBN 0 9512151 0 8). The lives and times of the fisherfolk at Lynn, particularly 19th and early 20th century, with dozens of photographs of people and places to bring the book alive. May I again list the names I am searching for? RAWLINS, Albert WW in Wisbech RAWLINS, Outwell Moles, Outwell WELFAR, St. Germans, Norf. Thanks, Faith
Thank you to Brenda, Christine and others for their encouragement. I will keep an eye open for the families you have mentioned. Here are the first four titles from my bookshelf of second hand books on Norfolk local history: 'The Rabbitskin Cap' by George Baldry, ed. Lilias Rider Haggard, first published by Boydell Press in 1939, reprinted 1974 in The Norfolk Library (ISBN 0 85115 045 4). An old man's recollections of his boyhood in Ditchingham, Norfolk, just over the river Waveney from Bungay in Suffolk. 'I walked by Night', ed. Lilias Rider Haggard, first published by Boydell Press in 1935, reprinted 1974 in The Norfolk Library (ISBN 0 85115 046 2). Allegedly written by 'The King of the Norfolk Poachers' who was brought up in the Grimston/Pentney area and finished his days near Bungay. Fascinating descriptions of life at Pentney but I can't work out who the author was! 'Norfolk Life' by Lilias Rider Haggard & Henry Williamson published by Faber & Faber. Life between the World Wars; mentions of Baldry; any clues to the identity of the King of the Norfolk Poachers? 'The Story of East Dereham' by Ben Norton published by Phillimore in 1994 (ISBN 0 85033 908 1). A full history of the town up to the 20th century. Invaluable background for anyone with ancestors from the centre of Norfolk. Best wishes Vera ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Father always used to say that grandma was from Norfolk not too far from King's Lynn. Unfortunately grandfather's name was rather common, the year of marriage is uncertain and I am resigned to a steady plod through the BMDs! Kind folks at my local library have helped me get on the Internet and yesterday I found the archives for the Norfolk list. What a wonderful resource! I don't yet have any ancestors to share but I did notice several postings about local histories. If anyone is interested I am happy to share a list of the local - mostly north west Norfolk - history books which I have gathered from second hand shops. greetings! >From my database/spreadsheet on the CORKES/ CORKS + VARIANTS of England, I have a list of Cork/es for East Anglia from 1500 to 1900. It is by no means complete, as I am finding more and more CORK/ES every day. I am pleased to give this information to any who might be interested in making use of these data. The information may ring true for you and it might not. This is the structure of the data base/spreadsheet: * last name * given names * DOB * town, village, city, * County * Christening date * mothers name * fathers name * marriage date (s) * spouse's name * date of death/burial (Very few entries so far.) * Neat Stuff If you can provide me with 3 known items from the list above, I will send you whatever information that seems to fit and fill in some of the gaps. Perhaps you will have some information which I can add to the spreadsheet???? Cheers! Dianne Corke In Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
