I don't know if anyone can help as I am having great difficulty finding information on my GGM Jane Ayre and her family who came from Barnsley. She married a John Smith on Xmas Day in Darlington 1862. Her father was Thomas Ayre. She was, according to the marriage certificate, aged 24 so her birth year would have been around 1838. I cannot find them on the 1861 or 1851 Darlington Census. ( ON the 1881 and subsequent censuses her origins were Barnsley. On the 1851 census there were 2 boys a Thomas and a William who were down as living in the workhouse (aged 11 and 9), they were both from Barnsley. I have been sent the Barnsley 1851 census which shows a John Ayre from darlington and an Ayres from Darlington. Can anyone help please? Thank you all in anticipation and a Happy New Year! Colin Smith
