Barry, Thanks for the 1871 info, it is of great interest as I was unaware of the stepdau Jane as she does not appear with the family in the later 1881 and 1891 Census also Joseph RAINE has a birth place of Hunderthwaite, which is in the parish of Romaldkirk granted so I will have to hunt further.
