Dear Nancy, My grandparents lived in Carlton for a number of years, it was in the 1950's a small farming community as a child I cannot remember evidence of an Ironworks, a number of new expensive houses have now been built there. The local pub is the Smiths Arms right in the middle of the village. The Iron works that I know of were at Stillington which is about 3 miles away, I used to play around the slag heaps when I was very young, the works closed down I think before I was born, there was factory producing an insulating material from the slag heaps called Slag wool. Much of the old village has now been demolished. Sorry I have no information on your family but I thought that you like some background info, my memory is a little hazy but I seem to recall the name Jackson in the village as being farmers.
