    3. Diane, I suspect that you are looking for the Thorpe village, near Grindon, in SE Durham, which was generally known as Thorpe Thewles. 3. Hi Diane Don't know if this will help or confuse you more. To my knowledge there is no Thorpe Village. But if you follow the A177 North Westerly from Stockton -on -Tees it used to go through the Village of Thorpe Thewels and still goes through Thorpe Larches. Grindon is just east of the A177 and, in the same area west of the A177 Thorpe Leazes. Grindon had a church until the new one (1848) was built at Thorpe Thewels See http://website.lineone.net/~pjoiner/genuki/DUR/Grindon/#ChurchRecords If You go to www.streetmaps.co.uk and enter Grindon as a place name one of the choices will be Grindon Stockton-on -Tees and you should be able to find all the places mentioned above. -------Original Message------- From: ENG-DURHAM-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com Date: 29 December 2002 22:26:09 To: ENG-DURHAM-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [D'hamYorks] Thorpe& Grindon??
