Hello all! I think I have made a breakthrough in tracking down my gg grandfather who has eluded me so far. He married my gg grandmother even though she had just had another man's child 2 or 3 weeks previously, and then appears to have been absent most of the time apart from popping back to get my gg grandmother pregnant again with my g grandmother! There is a James ABBOTT listed on Bulmer's trade directory of 1890 for Catterick and I think (well - hope!) this may be him. I wonder if anybody has access to the 1891 census for Catterick to check the listing for any ABBOTT's thereabout for me. My gg grandfather would have been 35 (ish) at the time. Also, he is listed as "owner of entire horse" (which I find quite amusing) - and I wonder where the terminology came from - why don't they just say "owner of horse"? Does anyone know if Catterick Racecourse would have been functioning in 1890? Thank you for any help in tracking down this rascal!
