My 3rd great-grandfather was William ABBOTT. Birthplace, unknown; he married Jane BROWN, from Richmond, in Catterick on May 2 1803. They then lived in Richmond and had 12 children; the oldest, George Brown ABBOTT was my 2nd great grandfather, the oldest child, born about 1803. William was a labourer; George was a tailor. I have a complex tree of some of the descendants of William; there were so many children, that they founded quite an Abbott dynasty in the area.
