Entire when used in reference to a horse means it is still fully equipped as a stallion and not gelded. At least it does these days.. Wish I could find my g grandfather Henry Bernhard(t) round 1891 onwards. He should be in Auckland Durham round 1891 as the last child was born there. Later he took up with a Miss Wood I believe and had another family.. May have been connected with the Union cinema chain - anyone able to help? There is a James ABBOTT listed on Bulmer's trade directory of 1890 for Catterick and I think (well - hope!) this may be him. I wonder if anybody has access to the 1891 census for Catterick to check the listing for any ABBOTT's thereabout for me. My gg grandfather would have been 35 (ish) at the time. Also, he is listed as "owner of entire horse" (which I find quite amusing) - and I wonder where the terminology came from - why don't they just say "owner of horse"? Does anyone know if Catterick Racecourse would have been functioning in 1890? Thank you for any help in tracking down this rascal!
