Hi listers, Is there someone on the list with access to 1891 census returns ? There are two households I would like to examine. I found them in the 1881 census: 1. Census place = Monkwearmouth Shore, Durham, England. ..............Dwelling = 5 Cage Hill ..............Head of household = Elizabeth DOUGLAS, b. 1815 at Lymington Northumberland* age 66, widow. ( *Obviously the birth place address is an error. I understood that Lyminton is in Hampshire!) Who is in the household in 1891? 2.Census place = Elsdon Northumberland ...........Dwelling = Elsdon Hillhead ................Head = Robert DOUGLAS ....Housekeeper = Elizabeth DOUGLAS, b.1816 at Alwinton, Northumberland, England, age 65, widow. relation to Head = mother Again, who is in this household in 1891? I would be most appreciative if someone would look these up for me. Mary.

I have successfully located the marriage for my g.g.grandmother's brother, Edward HULL who was born at Auckland St. Helens in l853, son of Matthew HULL and Isabella (DAVISON). Can anyone connect to the RUMFORDS? It is not a very common name! l88l, Aug 8th, Trinity Church, Parish of Darlington, county of Durham Edward HULL, 28, Bachelor, Engine Turner, residence Hill Street, father Matthew HULL, lab. Elizabeth Wright RUMFORD, 23, spinster, no occ., residence King Street, father Cuthbert RUMFORD, upholsterer witnesses Cuthbert RUMFORD, Margaret Lang RUMFORD I have located Cuthbert and family on the l88l Census - living at 38 King Street, Darlington, as follows: Cuthbert RUMFORD, 54, b. Birmingham, Warwick Mary Ann, 55, wife, b. Newcastle, NBL Wm. B., son, 29, b. Newcastle; Franie E., daur, 27, b. Newcastle: Elizabeth, daur., 23, b. Liverpool: Sarah, daur., 21, b. Newcastle: Margret, daur., l8, b. Newcastle: Annie, daur., l5, b. Darlington, George, son., l2, b. Darlington plus Nelly WRIGHT, 5, visitor, b. Sunderland. It is likely there was also another son, Cuthbert, 25, b. Liverpool who was a cabinet maker boarding at Westgate, NBL, with the MEIKLE family on the l88l census. I know of two children born to Edward and Elizabeth - Percy Edmondson HULL (b. l888) and Annie Isabella HULL (b. l890) but there may be more born between l88l and l888. Edward was a widower on the l90l Census. Regards Diane Johansen

Hello List, Have you lost a Henry Edward? I'm returning again to have another attempt at battering down my brickwall! Despite a full search by the GRO, there does not appear to be a birth registration for my grandfather Henry Edward HARRIS. Verbal family history says that his birth date was 5 November 1876 but because both he and my grandmother died when I was a very small child there is little else to go on. Virtually all of my information is from his Army service record, which I was able to obtain last year. This confirms his probable birth year as 1876, gives his parents as Henry Alfred and Emma HARRIS and his place of birth as West Hartlepool. Helpful fellow searchers have trawled the parish records but no joy there either. He and his parents are on the 1891 census for Rotherham, as expected from grandfather's marriage certificate, listed as follows Henry HARRIS M 49 M Leicester, Leics, England Emma ATKIN M 51 F Boston, Lincoln, England Henry ATKIN U 14 M West Hartlepool, Durham, England This is the probable family in 1881, at 12 Bishop Square, Ecclesall Bierlow, Yorks Henry ATKIN M 39 M Leicester, England Emma ATKIN M 41 F Boston, Lincoln, England Henry ATKIN U 4 M West Hartlepool, Durham, England Again, a fellow researcher has explored the 1871 West Hartlepool census for HARRIS, with no success as yet. Could it be that I have one of those contrary families who used a different alias wherever they went!....If so, do you have a Henry Edward without a home after 1876? Regards, in desperation - Patrisia Carrington Penmaenmawr, North Wales

I have an interest in the Dodds family in and around Hurworth, Co. Durham. George Dodds (b Killerby 1827?) married Elizabeth?? (b Leeds 1824?). They had two daughters. Sarah Amelia (b Hurworth1852; d ??.10.1938 possibly in Thornaby) who married George Smith (b Stokesley 21.03.1861; d Thornaby? 03.01.1916) in the March quarter of 1883 in Darlington. Harriet (b Hurworth 1863) Their address on the 1881 Census was given as East Row, Hurworth. Can anybody tell me more about them or their families? Thank you Brian
Hello John - I don't if I can help, but my best friend is Judy and John Ayre, they live, in our village, and has done all of his life, he has a Younger brother Colin who also lives in our village and I am also very friendly with, they have an older sister who lives in Carlisle and an older brother Frank who died in the 1960's but lived in the London area, I think. John had his 65th Birthday in September. Strangely enough, John wife Judy is from Easingwold and had an uncle who taught in Barnsley, her maiden name is Idle. (which makes her an Idle Ayre !!!). John's father is buried in a village cemetery just outside Darlington called Croft, but it is just across the boundary of Durham and North Yorkshire - that maybe the reason you cannot find him. Hello, Found this at the local LDS. and thought they may belong to some-ones DODDS family. I have DODDS in the area , but they don't seem to be mine:- All Saints Church, Stranton, West Hartlepool, County Durham. Baptism of Twins on June 20 / 1879. Charles Frederick DODDS and Frederick W. Auggers DODDS. Their parents were William and Mary Ann DODDS. [ William DODDS was an Engine Fitter.] The name Auggers was probably from the maiden name of the Maternal Grandmother or Grt. Grandmother. Do they fit in your family ?? Cheers, Pam [RENNEY] McKinley in Arizona, but born and raised at Aldershot,Hants. Always looking for my RENNEY family in County Durham & North Yorks. Also RENNIE at Kinnell, Angus, Scotland.

Hi, If anyone has a few spare minutes (what are those I hear you cry) can someone be kind enough to do a look up for me. I have an 1861 and 1881 census return for a Robert COATES but between the two census's he re-married. I am trying to find when he re-married as then I can start putting his children in the correct part of the tree. The 1871 census return would be a good way of narrowing it down a bit or better still a death/burial for Margaret COATES or marriage for Robert and Clara. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------ >From 1861 census.
