Hi Diane, I was intrigued by your e-mail. I have an friend whose grandfather had a chemist shop in Liverpool, and he sold the fly papers to Florence Maybrick, the arsenic from which was used to poison her husband. He tells me that Florence was sentenced to death for the murder of her husband, but was later reprieved. He believes that she left England and remarried in the USA. Apparently a paperback book was published about 7 years ago about this and there is even a photo of the Chemist shop from which the fly papers were purchased in the book. Hi Adrian Yes, FS is the old spelling for SS in the Inniss name, but as it changed to INNES on some records, I like to print it how it was listed. What is your Inniss connection? Etherley was just outside Bishop's Auckland. Etherley Lane still exists. It is the main road ruuning from due west into the town, and goes through Etherley Dene. There was a coal mine in Etherley; my grandfather Mark ABBOTT was born there 23 Jan 1874. Adrian
My INNES connection was; Elizabeth INNES (born 2 June 1844, Monk Heseldon; father Joseph INNES 1799-1856) married Francis Williiam THUBRON (1842-1916) in about 1869. Francis William THUBRON was my 3rd cousin 3 times removed, so it was a distant connection. THUBRON was my mother's maiden name. Adrian
Has anyone ideas? I am looking into my GGGM who was married in the Ethley area. Elizabeth Pickering maried Sober Watkin Smith on 15th October 1843. SWS was a Pitman.. EP's father was called Thomas Pickering and was a Quarryman. The MCert says that they were married in the Parish church in the Parish of Auckland St Andrew. The residnce at the time of marriage was Etherley Lane. I have not found SWS and family on the 1851 census indexes for the area, and there are a number of TP's in the area who could possibly be the father. I have access to the 1841 census for Durham, but to save me scrolling through thousands of names in South West Durham, can anyone point me as to where Etherley lane might come under (Etherley in not one of the dsitricts mentioned), so that I can start at the most likely first? Also one of the witnesses at the wedding was Mary Ann Pickering who I assume would have been EP's sister. However according to the IGI there was a MAP who was married the year bfeore in the same parish. Could/would she have used her maiden name if she was a witness or is it more likely that the MAP married the year before was someone else? Thanking you in anticipation Colin

Hello List Is there anyone with access to the 1871 census who could help with a look-up for the following family? :- John and Hannah BLENKHORN (aged 42 and 38) and their children - Martha, Mary and James John was a limestone quarryman Their address in 1881 was 11 New Row, Forcett with Carkin, North Yorks - I'm hoping they were there in 1871 Thanks for any help Jane
Having some connection by marriage to early 1800 INNES, the name INNIFS intrigues me. Is that how it was really spelled, or has somebody taken the old method of writing a double "s" as "fs", and the name is really INNISS? Adrian

In the 1881 census, the GRAHAM family were living at 7 York Pl Hartlepool Durham England Florie was born in 1862 and Henry in 1858. Henry was a ship owner. He was the Director of The Dominion and Mississippi Steam Ship Company that was registered in Liverpool Hoping that someone can help me in this matter. Thank you very much. From Diane Sowden
