Click and then choose the right reporting form you want. You will be joining the literally thousands of us reporting errors. Good luck. Do not expect a reply - they are far too busy!! 3. Does anyone know how to report errors in transcription in 1901 census? Of my 4 grandparents, one is Scots, so I had his details months ago. One, William POSTLETHWAITE, is transcribed as I would expect, e.g. his name is spelt correctly, even though it is quite difficult to spell. The other 2 both have their surnames spelt wrongly, which makes searching very difficult! My Elsie COX, who was born in Norton, Co. Durham. on 13th March 1901 (so only 2 weeks before the census) has turned into an Elsie COT. Her parents & sister are also COTs. Worse, my great aunt was Pamelia COX until she died in 1986, but the 1901 census has her as Prunelia COT. I also have GOULDING relatives in Berkshire & they have become GOLDING, which is understandable, but wrong. Can I feed this back anywhere?

If you go into the FAQ's you will find the following about three-quarters down the page. " What if I spot a mistake in the transcription? You can report errors in transcription via the Census Data Amendment facility." I would have simply post the URL to the amendment page, but, for some reason, a copied URL does not work. (must have something to do with Java??). The page also indicates "If agreed the change will be made and details posted periodically on the List of Census Data Amendments page". If you follow this link you will see that there have not yet been any corrections. The lack of any corrections was questioned and my understanding is that QinetiQ have indicated that they are holding off on all corrections until the site has passed the testing stage. Cheers, Gordon Hawthorne

    3. Thank you to "TOT" for enlightening me regarding the term SLOPS. I was in the navy for 12 long years (1961-1973) and apart from 'dishing out the tots' (rum issue) one of my other jobs was to man the slop room. Whilst I know that to a sailor the word meant 'slops', I never knew it had it's roots in English, I thought it was nautical slang for clothing. Unless of course, like may naval terms, it came ashore. regards John Hume looking for any HUME in the northeast, especially Durham.

    1. [D'hamYorks] MYERS & WELCH
    2. Mary Hargreaves
    3. Good evening listers, I have found my John MYERS aged 33 years, on the 1901 census. He is living with his wife Mary (nee WELCH) aged 30 years and daughter Isabella aged 4 years, address given as in Crook & Billy Row. John was born Stanley Pit, Durham and Mary was born Spennymoor. In 1881 John is with his parents in Crook. Mary with her mother a widow named Isabella. At that time Mary had a young brother aged 1 year, so the father must only have died during the year or so before the census. Anyone any ideas as to who her father was. I am also looking for the marriage of John & Mary. A friend has looked at the St. Cath's index for me and been unable to find it (maybe she missed it). As I am housebound I am unable to search myself, so am dependent on Other Kind Souls. Grateful for any info received..................Mary
