While I don't have any of the possible answers to your question, I would point out that they are likely to depend a great deal on which period you are talking about. Some mention of, at least, the century and, if the nineteenth, the decade, would be a great help to those who might have the answers. Remember that at the beginning of that century there was no Catholic emancipation but by the end of it there were two RC Dioceses in existence locally, that of Hexham and Newcastle and that of Middlesbrough. Also the nature of the RC church had undergone a tremendous change, from being the church of a handful of mainly wealthy landowning "county" families to being that of hordes of illiterate immigrant poor Irish labourers. .
