Hi List, I have noticed recent postings mentioning BARNARD CASTLE. I had previously thought this was an actual castle, I am now wondering if it is instead a district, town or city perhaps? My great, great grandmother MARY SPENCER was born in Barnard Castle and christened there 11 January,1827. Daughter of WILLIAM SPENCER and ELIZABETH GLENDENING who had married in 1825. All set sail on 19 April 1828 on the SHIP "CAROLINE" arriving in AUSTRALIA as free settlers. Any further information on their ancestry, connections etc would be appreciated. Regards JANADELE, in Pyrmont, Sydney AUSTRALIA.
If you search on www.google.co.uk , you'll find 115,000 hits for Barnard Castle.
