Dear List, I have a missing relative called John GARDINER he married my Gt, gt, gt grandmother in 1867 in Weardale, Co Durham and I have their marriage Certificate, they were both 22 years old. He was a lead miner and was living at Weeds, which is near Westgate-in-wWeardale They had had two children but by 1872 his wife Margaret GARDINER nee NATTRASS was remarried to a Thomas WATSON and Margaret is listed on this second marriage certificate as widowed. However I cannot find any record of John GARDINER's death between 1867 and 1872. Even if I presume he was not really the biological father of the 2 children he was meant to be the father of. I have tried all of Durham and Northumberland and cannot find where he might be listed. Free BMD is no use and neither are the local burial records for Stanhope parish. I have tried alternate spellings and rough ages but no luck. Do you think he could have run off and Margaret is lying in order to remarry?! Has anyone got any ideas? However fantastic they're all welcome! Anna
