Hi Carole Many thanks for the Monumental Inscription from All Saints Church, Penshaw and for the snippet about people rowing across the river from Harraton. I wonder if it is possible for Harraton people to be baptised at this church. If so, I may find Ann's birth there. I shall certainly make a point of joining the N&D Family History Society as it looks as though I may find very useful information concerning all branches of our family. The only other reference to BARRASS that I have jotted down along the way, is from the 1851 census for Houghton:- 157 Colliery Row Ann Barrass head widow 80 pauper b. Fatfield 178 Colliery Row Ann Barrass head widow 76 pauper b. Tanfield Robert Maddison son unm. 56 miner b. Fatfield Mary A Fletcher gr.dt. 12 b. Colliery Row (I thought the first one may be my Ann Colling). You most possibly already have these references. Regards, Margaret.
