Thanks for the information, I was wondering if you had any census information to make it possible to find his parents? Any help would be appreciated. I am thinking they changed his place of birth when they adopted him. My gg grandmother was from Yorkshire, she was William and Eleanor's daughter, her name Margeret (Mary). She married my gg grandfather late, 30's. I am wondering if this was her son from a previous marriage or a possible aunt's son. I am thinking this because I thought at first this was Eleanor's nephew but can find no record of a Eleanor Craggs born 1849 in Waskerly. So, another relationship had to bring him to the family. He is no longer living with them on the 1901 census. I am not sure what the story is here. I think that perhaps this may have been Eleanor's nephew from a brother or sister. I am still looking into this. What stumped me was that in 1881 he is listed on the census as son, then in 1891 it looked like they wrote serv... looked to be servant. But I did some talking to others and it looks like the enumerator who wrote the census had some bad handwriting, we did some checking and he is listed as their son.
