Hi Janet, Just read your message, Just another possability to look at, if your sure your ancestors came from the "Durham" or "Northumberland" area, could "North Land" be refering to "Lindisfarn" it's an irland of the north coast of Northumberland, it was often refered to as "North Irland" The registration history was discused on one of the "rootsweb sites" in the last week. The Island and other places near-by which as far as I can understand, used to come under "Durham" in the 1800, because of its links with the "Cathederal" and "St Cuthbert" but is now Northumberland, It could easely be confused with "Newcastle" I never dismiss anything in genealogy when reading and trying to understand documents writen in the past, ( you have to be a detective!) Somone with more understanding of this than I, might be able to clarifie this ! As a matter of interest, do you know the occupation of the father, or other people on the census info ?
