    1. [ENG-DURHAM] Birkbeck / Birbeck/ Sayer/Betts
    2. Hi, As we have mention of Birkbeck on both Yorkshire and Durham message boards I thought I would respond to both. My lot may not be related but I'm interested in finding out more about a Jonathan Birbeck born around 1857, whose daughter Susan Birkbeck (b 1883 Darlington), married William Edgar Sayer and emigrated to USA (Ellis Island records around 1906). Jonathan was working as a Railway Clerk in Darlington at time of 1881 census and had moved to Sculcoates, Hull by 1901 (The Sayers were a Hull family) The FreeBMD index lists a Jonathan Birbeck born Sept 1857 Crosby Ravensworth, Westmoreland to Joseph and Ann. There are 2 references to the name Joseph Birbeck in Ellis island records between 1904 - 1914, visiting NY area who may also be related? By the way, they had a son George Dennis Sayer (b.1915 Yorkshire - d.1962 Florida.) Susie Sayer's husband Edgar died in Buffalo, New York, in 1922 and Susie remarried in 1924, to one Joseph Betts, a brickie from Crewe who had travelled to USA. Susie died in 1973 in New Jersey, the death being registered under name of Sayer! I would love to know ANYTHING about this family, past or present. Cheers Laurel Sayer
