hi Heather, My Hardys start with Eliza Hardy c1830 who was my Gx2 grandmother and married John Smurthwaite in 1848. Eliza was born in Etherly and was the daughter of Thomas Hardy and Elizabeth Borrowdale, Thomas being born in Escombe.
