    1. Re: [ENG-DURHAM] Help wanted

ABT 1820 EBCHESTER Jan: A John and Jane Moody had a son William baptised at Ebchester on 2 January 1818. They were of Ebchester Mill and John was a wool spinner. The same couple had another child, William, baptised, also at Ebchester, on 20 March 1819. The parents don't seem to have married at Ebchester. I doubt whether they married in Co Durham at all and my database is not comprehensive enough for me to say much about a possible marriage in Northumberland, except that two possibilities are John Moody and Jane Hogarth who married at Newcastle St John on 9 November 1814 and John Moody and Jane Thompson who married at Elsdon on 17 July 1817. This last reference is from the BTs, the parish marriage register for that period being lost. The timing of the Elsdon entry is what, in practice, one tends to get between the wedding and the baptism of the first child! However, we don't know whether William really was his parents' first child - the may have married much earlier and had other children elsewhere before they had William Geoff Nicholson
