In the 50s and 60s, children from Easington, Horden and Blackhall Collieries, went by bus and train to Grammar schools. Children from Horden and Blackhall, went to the Henry Smith Grammar School at Hartlepool, by train. Children from Easington and Seaham went to Ryhope Grammar School, by train.
