Hi everyone! Just an update to my query about Hipwigen, which is a birthplace that was listed for someone in my William and Maria Myers family, on the 1871 census of Newcastle. Unfortunately, Hipwigen is not a real place, so it had to be incorrect. I got a few responses from some of our listers. Someone said it could actually be Nijmegen, another person thought Hofwegen, which is a place I had never heard of, that is now part of Graafstroom in South Holland. I am woring with both of those possibilites. I went back and looked again at the 1871 Newcastle page, and I am quite confident that the first letter is indeed an H, comparing it to other handwriting of the same census taker. I have found a website called Genlias, which lists a great deal of births, marriages, and deaths for the Netherlands. Another great comment that Nivard had from our list, was to put postems on any family records, births, marriages and deaths, in case other researchers see them. Jenny on our list suggested that I put postings on the regional boards on rootsweb for Holland. There are boards for the various provinces in Holland, and someone researching the family from the Dutch side might see it too. Most of the posts are in English. Thanks to everyone!
