    3. Hello Michael,   Thank you for giving me a reply. Yes, there is a WILLIAM & MARY in Richard Keyes book. My William Bittleson (or Bittleston, Bittlestone, Biddlestone etc.) was master of it in 1825 at which time also my Snowdon and Pippet relatives were part owners. I'm not 100% certain that that WILLIAM & MARY is the same one (rueful smile - too many of my shipowning ancestors had ships with very common names - makes me really appreciate the odd BURNHOPESIDE and HENZELL'S PATENT), but it's the right name in the right era. That's why I'm trying to track down names of prisoners of war. But, in 1807, he was a very junior seaman, and as you say, not many of those are named.   Myself, I have never seen a copy of that book, but a kind member of The Mariner's List sent me that information a few years ago. I'm in Canada and according to [worldcat.org], there are no copies in libraries closer to me than Newcastle. If ever it is reprinted, I'll be one of the first to buy as I expect there are probably close to 200 ships of family interest in it.   Regards, Adi   --- On Sat, 10/10/09, Dixymick@aol.com <Dixymick@aol.com> wrote: Adi, Was the William & Mary registered on the Tyne ? A Book by Richard Keyes, " Dictionary of Tyne Sailing Ships" lists over  5000 ships together with dimensions, cv, ownerships , captains and some snippets  on voyagers and crew members. Book available, at least, in Tyne & Wear Archives and Newcastle City  Library. The Times ( of London) carried the news reported in the Moniteur... but  edtion ( no. 7037) was of the 4th May 1807. Lots of newspapers in the era repoting shipping incidents, but custom  seemed to have been quote names of officers but just number the men ( Even the "War Diaries" of WW1 of specific Battalions of Northumberland  Fusiliers mention officer casualities by name, but other ranks not named) Michael Dixon Newcastle __________________________________________________________________ Looking for the perfect gift?
