    3. Hi Helen I am not sure whether you have already gone down the paths I outline below, or whether you have obtained the info from (for example) George's Australian marriage certificate? Anyway, just in case and apologies if this is old hat, on www.freebmd.org there is the following birth: Births Jun 1899 George Longstaff Auckland vol 10a page 242 FreeBMD is a volunteer project to transcribe the civil registration indexes for England and Wales. If you click on the district name [in this case Auckland] on FreeBMD you will get more information about where it is etc. You can use the references on FreeBMD to purchase certificates here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ There are a number of possibilities for the deaths of Robert Cox Waugh & Mary Hannah Waugh, as they may well be just listed as Robert & Mary, no middle names given, as you will see if you have a look yourself. Have you tracked them forward to see where they might be living later in life? Please note that FreeBMD is a work in progress and that the project has only recently got up to the 1930s so there will be gaps - click on the info tab to see coverage. You can page through the images for years not yet transcribed on the FreeBMD site. If you live near a reasonably sized city in Australia, there will be a library with the BMD indexes for England and Wales on fiche. By the way, their death certificates will not give the names of their parents. Their marriage certificate will give you the names and occupations of their respective fathers - here is the reference from FreeBMD: Marriages Sep 1896 LONGSTAFF Mary Hannah Auckland volume 10a page 355 Waugh Robert Cox Auckland 10a 355 1901 Census Durham RG13/4680 Folio 60 page 30 Civil parish Stockley Village Page Bank Ecclesiastical parish - Willington 157 Old Row 2 rooms Robert C Waugh, Head, 28, Coal Miner Hewer [I think it says Hewer but the word is partly obscured by later writing] born Durham, South Hetton Mary H. wife 26 born DUR Hylton George L. son age 1 born DUR Spennymoor See www.genuki.org.uk for information about these places - here is a direct link to the page for Brancepeth if it works http://www.joinermarriageindex.com/pjoiner/genuki/DUR/Brancepeth/index.html The 1911 census is available on a pay per view basis here http://www.1911census.co.uk/ - the index is free. If you find your family it will give more information about other children. This seems to be the family (this info is from the index - to get the rest of the entry you will need to buy credits on the 1911 census site). Robert Cox Waugh born 1873 district - Durham , Co. Durham Mary Hannah Waugh born 1875 do do George Longstaff Waugh born 1900 do do Lena Waugh born 1909 aged 2 do do This appears to be Lena's birth registration from FreeBMD: Births Mar 1909 Waugh Lena Durham vol 10a page 407 Some of the other Waugh births in the district may have belonged to this family but the children may have died. You can find out by looking through church records - see www.familysearch.org, click on library tab, then library catalogue. This will take you through to what records are available on film to order at your nearest LDS family history centre for a nominal fee. The library tab will also take you to a list of family history centres in your region. Don't forget that they may not have used the Church of England so have a look at non- conformist records also eg the Methodists. I won't go back any further at this stage as you may have this already but I could not resist the 1891 census entry for Robert which explains his middle name. 1891census RG12/4100 Folio 122 page 5 Ecc parish St Stephen's Willington Page Bank School Row 4 rooms Robert Waugh, Head, 40, Coal-miner, Glesgate Moor, DUR Jane, wife, 44 Sherburn Hill DUR Robert son 18 coal-miner South Hetton DUR Elizabeth dau 16 Page Bank William 15 coal miner Page Bank Jane Ann 13 Page Bank Nicholas 11 scholar Page Bank Ralph 7 scholar Page Bank Thomas 5 scholar Page Bank Hannah 3 Page Bank Christopher 9 months Page Bank William Cox Bro in law 30 Coal miner Sherburn Hill Mary Ann Cox niece 15 South Hetton Marriages Sep 1873 COX Jane Durham vol 10a page 557 Waugh Robert Durham vol 10a page 557 Hope this helps, Ingrid, NZ On 5/10/2009, at 7:07 AM, helen waugh wrote: > I am trying to find the death of ROBERT COX WAUGH born 1873 and his > wife MARY HANNAH LONGSTAFF born1875 both Durham, I know they had at > least one son George Longstaff Waugh, any help would be appreciated > Helen fron NSW > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ENG-DURHAM-request@rootsweb.com > with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and > the body of the message
