West Auckland is not, in itself, a parish. It is actually part (the most populous part) of the parish of Auckland St Helen. My copy of the IGI (1992 microfiche edition) does not seem to include Auckland St Helen's register, but it does show a marriage between a Thomas Gibson Richardson and an Ann Chorlton at Hamsterley on 6 April 1820. Being aged "45" on the 1841 census implies a birth, if that age is correct within the limits of the 1841 rules, in the period 1791-96, and a baptism, presumably very shortly afterwards.
