Would anyone know of a site that could give me the price of a pint of beer in 1870. Not that I`m expecting to be able to buy any at them prices, I`m curios as to how far 18 shilling would go on beer. Thanks for any help. George Carter in Whaley Bridge.
In July 1870 beer was being sold at two shillings a gallon, or three pence a pint, but was more when sold by the bottle or glass. In January 1870 Ind, Coope were advertising beer, from 21 shillings to 35 shillings a kilderkin, or 18 gallons, and from 11s 6d to 18s 6d a firkin, or 9 gallons. In quart bottles 4s 6d a dozen exclusive of bottles.
