You can therefore expect no extra information about the people concerned than their names, which youj already have. There being no regulations, parish clerks could add more detail if they wished, but in 99% or more of the cases they did not. Most marriages were after the calling of Banns and although many genealogical text-books will tell you thatg Banns books can give extra information, I have to say that in my experience that is most unlikely - and separate Banns Books are not usually found from so early a date anyway. Your main hope of discovering more about the circumstances of each person at the time of the wedding will therefore have to lie in the slight possibility that the wedding was by Licence. If it was, then you should be able to access the Bond and Allegation necessary for the Licence to be issued. It would be kept today with the Diocesan Records in Durham University Library, Archives and Special Collections. Indexes to them, including all the information likely to be useful, are published on fiche and CD by the NDFHS (see _www.ndfhs.org.uk_ (http://www.ndfhs.org.uk) ). However, if the wedding was by licence then that would usually (but not always!) be noted in the marriage register. Geoff Nicholson
