Allan, This might sound pedantic, but the censuses from 1841 to 1911 did not require the recording of " Place of birth". The column is headed " Where Born". Some enumerators recorded " Parish of Birth", others recorded the specific place of birth. For some folk had their birth-parish recorded then perhaps on later had birth-town or village-birth recorded, sometimes looking like two different "where borns", but in fact the same ! Michael
