Does anyone know where I can find a list of the abbreviations used in the earlier censuses: 1801 1811 1821 1831? Hi J I would take a look at http://www.histpop.org/ohpr/servlet/ However as there were never meant to be lists kept or published for the 1801 to 1831 census I would not think you will find one? The early census were meant to be a statistical exercise only but some census takers went the extra mile and kept their paperwork, some better than others but few and far between on the whole, not many survive, even fewer contain names and details Do you have an abbreviation in mind?
