    3. Hi Heather, We exchanged messages about this family when you returned from your hols. in April last year. I am afraid I can add little from what I knew then; my John VINTON's mother was Elizabeth ROBSON, born Whitburn about 1804 according to the 1851 census. Elizabeth's father (living with her in 1851) is John ROBSON, born Sunderland about 1770. John ROBSON (presumably the same one, but could be a brother or something instead) was also living with Elizabeth in 1841 and is then identified as an Ag Lab, age unknown. I don't have John VINTON's father identified, I'm afraid. Does that help connect us at all? Best wishes, Ian -----Original Message----- From: Heather Punshon [mailto:punshon@sasktel.net] Sent: 11 June 2009 06:00 To: Ian Sage Cc: ENG-DURHAM@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-DURHAM] New to List - South Shields Ian I saw your posting and just wanted to mention my own interest in the VINTON family. This is not a common name in the area - and probably most of the VINTONs are related. I am descended from John VINTON born 1802 in Gateshead who married 30 October 1831 in Heworth to Sarah MANNERS. John's father was William VINTON and his mother Elizabeth FENWICK His grandparents were Samuel VINTON and Jane THOMPSON I have other information, that I am happy to share. If you see any connection to your John VINTON, I'd love to hear from you I'd also like to share any VINTON information that you may have - or that anyone else may have. Best Wishes Heather Ian Sage wrote: > Hi Liz, > > It's not much, but I have Elizabeth Farraday of South Shields who married > John Vinton, June qtr 1856, S Shields vol 10a p633. 3. Ian Can you give me some census references for your family - and an approximate age for John VINTON Did you order his marriage certificate? - this would give his father's name and occupation, and would be well worth getting. Scans sent off list. I am a bit surprised myself that I don't have a copy of the marriage certificate - but these are actually rather distant relatives of mine which must account for it. Joseph Thomas ELRINGTON who married John VINTON's daughter Mary Ann Farraday VINTON, was first cousin to Mary Jane ELRINGTON, my Gt Grandmother. I followed up John VINTON's story because as a sea captain there are many details available about incidents in his eventful life - which included a shipwreck in the channel and fatal shipboard fire.
