George,   you may be lucky enough to find details in one of the local newspapers of the time.   I found an inquest report in the Newcastle Weekly Chronicle January 1866 after my g grandfather was the first Cornish miner killed in a mining accident in Cramlington.  It's always worth asking which newspapers are available.  I went to Newcastle Libray to look at the newspapers.   Daphne.
