    3. Hello, I am researching the Cates family, which could be spelled Cates, Cate, or Kates.  Family legend states that 3 brothers emigrated from Northern England to Norfolk, Virginia.  The earliest, that we can trace is through a Joseph Cate born in 1708.  Joseph Cate died 17 June 1766 in South Carolina.  I have gone through numerous records and found nothing.  Can anyone help.  Thank you, John Cates

    3. Would anyone know anything about Coroners Inquests in 1870? If the information could have survived and where it might be kept if the inquest concerned someone from Gateshead?
