    2. Nancy McLaughlin
    3. I notice that I can no longer access the page outlining the progress of the North East Inheritance project - the probate records for County Durham. Why is this, I wonder? The pages I could access previously were through the Durham University Library, a link that no longer works Dare I hope that perhaps the site is almost ready to go live?......... Does anyone have any information on this? -- Nancy McLaughlin Burwood, Christchurch, NZ http://www.archive.org/bookmarks/enzedder

    3. Hi Les I suspect a scam As there are restrictions on certain records which they would be breaking the law having access to and publishing I have to wonder what they do have access to and if you could get the same elsewhere for free or cheaper Phone numbers? Electoral Rolls? If you google for the website address and the word scam you get many hits most advertising their services but others none to pleased with the results of searches paid for on the site I would have to ask what it is you expect to find on there? If it was a good aid to genealogical research I would have expected to have A heard about it and B find it in the archives neither of which is the case Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) does anyone have any info on the following search site before i subscribe www.OnlinePublicRecordsSearch.com thanks les garr

    1. [ENG-DURHAM] Possible Boer War website.
    2. Kerry
    3. Dear fellow list members, I have long battled with a personal brick wall as regards a great uncle who just seemed to disappear from the planet at an early age. I have a photo of him in his mid teens in the mid 1890's and then nothing. With the help of the 1911 census I found his mother, (my great grandmother), and she lists that she had four children and three were living at that time. This is the first hint of anything having happened to my great uncle but I can't find a death listing in the BDM lists. My question is in two parts. Is it true that someone killed in a military setting isn't listed on civilian death records? Is there a Boer War website which lists those killed in the service of their country. Cheers and Happy Easter to all, Kerry from Brisbane. __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4002 (20090411) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com

    3. Hi Kerry To the best of my knowledge there is no one single site such as the CWGC which covers Boer War deaths War deaths are recorded in separate GRO indexes and as you found not with the usual BMDs You can access them at various sites but one has some of them free to access (it is a pay per view site though) http://www.familyrelatives.com/ Look for overseas records The following are two sites I had saved which may be of help http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Boer/ http://www.genealogyworld.net/boer/ Although the symptoms you describe seem to effect many of us, with people seemingly disappearing into thin air Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Dear fellow list members, > > I have long battled with a personal brick wall as regards a great uncle > who just seemed to disappear from the planet at an early age. 1. [ENG-DURHAM] George Turner family in Gateshead Durham
    2. Janet Hopkins
    3. Does anyone have this family out there, as I found on the 1911 census: George Turner, born about 1868, his wife Margaret, and the following children: John, Lizzie, Katie, May, Lily, Jane, and George. Lily and Jane Turner were twins, born 1907. I have a family photograph, of a wedding that took place in 1913, of Catherine Robinson and William Pegram, and the Turner twins were flower girls at that wedding. It took place in Gateshead, at St. Mary's Church. I can share the photo. (George Turner was the uncle of my great-grandmother Catherine Robinson) Janet Hopkins in Canada _________________________________________________________________ Share photos with friends on Windows Live Messenger http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9650734

    3. Thanks Stan, As it was the Durham "County" Council site I thought it was for all of the County. I guess I should have used the Office "drop down" feature and would have found Durham Central, Eastern, Northern and Western regions. I was born in England so I do understand, or did, about Durham City and County, but for those born elsewhere, perhaps confusing? Lynne. __________________________________________________________________________ Hi Lynne As that marriage was in Gateshead it will not be on the Durham County Council site.

    3. Many thanks to all who answered my question and to all who had a hand in putting these records online. I have a lot of birth, marriage and death certs. for my family members and was looking at the Durham and Gateshead sites for them. At Gateshead I had missed the "record coverage" button and my records are not yet online. For Durham it says "many" births are online, I did not find my MAINS Annie 1907 or Eliza 1909. Durham says "all" marriages are covered but I did not find my William MAINS and Martha REAY 30th March 1907 (from cert.). All of the above are on freebmd. I wonder if there are plans to expand the coverage, perhaps not in these tough economic times. All help is greatly appreciated, Lynne.

The whole of the city of Sunderland is excluded, as are the areas of Gateshead, South Tyneside and Tees Side, which have their own sites. FreeBmd have all births from 1837-1915 Stan Mapstone
