Hi All Looking at one of my certificates RUDDS LANE Monkwearmouth Shore is mentioned The year being 1849.Does any one have a street map with it on. I have a sneaking suspicion it was in the area by the river which was taken over by the Shipyards and Engine works Regards George G Sunderland

An extensive list of Lanes, Alleys and Quays of Sunderland that are mentioned in early records was produced by the late Charles Walker and was published in 'Sunderland's History' Volume 5 - the journal of the Sunderland Antiquarian Society. I have checked this list but there is no reference to Rudd's Lane. Alan Vickers.
