My dad was born in Queen Street in 1915 and part of it is now the location of Marks & Spencer. My uncle told of a story that in the 1920's a bull got loose from a nearby abbatoir, and people took refuge in the adjoining alleys. Only the bull charged through a back entry and sent the occupants flying! EC Robson's Flour Mill stood there and according to uncle itwas the highest building of its day in Sunderland
