In engineering he made models of patterns, (usually of wood) from drawings supplied by the Drawing Office, these formed the sand moulds from which castings were made. In pottery he made pots from the design of a draughtsman, and passed them to a mould maker who made the moulds from them for the mass production of the design. You are correct about the names.
