Hi All Re 1851/1861 census Sunderland any area trying to find when my Grt Grandfather James Allan arrived here, in the 1881 census he seemed to be well established in the town he and his family living at the Pilot Hotel, High St, his age given as 46, born in Scotland 1835 and no other details, by profession a Master Mariner a term that seemed to be loosely used in those days.
