I am researching on my maternal side for a Margaret HODGSON born about 1830, probably at North Shields, Durham. I only have a marriage certificate dated 5 August 1849, at Hetton-le-Hole, Margaret a spinster had no age on the certificate, nothing about 'full age' or 'minor' etc. her father William was sailor. She married Edmund TIPLADY born 1826, Reeth, Yorkshire, of full age, Pitman, his father was John a common carrier. Witness to the wedding were John Rueben Bell and George Emmerson. They had children Jane born 1850, John born 1852 and William Hodgson born 1858. I am descended from Jane TIPLADY born 1850 who married in 1871 in the USA to Samuel WILE, they both came to Australia, and are at rest in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
