The Smith's Arms, and the Old Mill, Southwick Green were built in the 1820s, and stood a few yards apart. The property between the pubs was a blacksmiths during the 19th cent, hence the name. After the closure of the Smiths' Arms an effort was made to save the building as part of Southwick's heritage, but this failed and in 1984 it suffered the same fate as the Old Mill which was demolished three years before.
