    1. [SUNDERLAND] Signatures on Certificates
    2. John Crickmore
    3. Best of the New Year to everyone. I'm hoping the Brains Trust on this list may be able to steer me in the right direction, if there is one that is. I have g-g-grandfather, Robert William Crickmore (also know as William Robert in his earlier years) who was born in Suffolk but moved to Sunderland as a young man. He married a local girl Christen Stuart in 1862. They had several children. In the 1871 census Christen is home with the children, but no Robert William. In the 1881 census, she is at home, with the kids, but under a different surname (I was able to find them through one of the girl's names, Lena, which isn't that common) Robert William worked his way up to Master Mariner and got around a bit, being the Master of the Mary Ann Annison and the Mary Ann Jamison. We have the Lloyds information on that, and there weren't any other Robert William Crickmore's who were Masters. On some of his trips he came to Sydney, in the 1870's. In November 1879 a Robert William Crickmore married Mary Smith, in the then Colony of Victoria. According to the copy of the marriage registry book he was from Sunderland. There is also the registration of the birth of a daughter to Robert William and Mary in January 1881. I've matched the signature of Robert William Crickmore of the Mary Ann Annison & Mary Ann Jamison, on the copies of the Crew & Passenger Listings, with the signature of Robert William Crickmore in the marriage registry, so I know they are the same person. The trick is linking him back to the Robert William Crickmore, married to Christen Stuart in Sunderland. We're 99% sure it's the same person but we looking for the actual evidence to prove it. After looking through the copies of the marriage certificates for Robert William and his brother Henry, where he was a witness, I now realise that the names of the groom, bride & witnesses are written in by someone else (the local Registrar?) I was hoping that they were the same as the early Victorian registry entries where the people sign the book, so I could match the signatures with the one on the Crew & Passenger Listings and the Victorian Registry book. My question is, is there any record that is accessible today by any means that has the parties to a wedding signatures, or perhaps other documents that might have a person's signature? Many Thanks in Advance John Crickmore Canberra, Australia
