HI, George (or Margaret ??), Thanks for your input. I might yet wish to take you up on your implicit offer, but have not yet got to that stage. My reason for looking at the Sunderland Parish Church register (or at least, the index thereto) was fairly unscientific. A few months ago I had ordered the film of Marriages at the same church, to check on an IGI entry regarding the marriage of one of my ggg-grandparent-in-law couples. (Henry Robson to Ann Jones, married at Sunderland, 30 November 1818). At the time of ordering, it just seemed a good idea to order the film of Christenings at the same time. So I am now 'trawling' though the film, noting all births/christenings of every surname in my (fairly short) list of surnames of potential interest. I fear that 'real' genealogists would consider such an approach to be quite primitive ("blunderbuss search" ?).
