    3. Has anyone any information on the above family name, I have the following and I am trying to fill in any blanks or acquire more information on Gowland family. Gowland; Clement, watch maker 1757 - 1824. George, clock and watch maker, born 1759, worked in the Hylton Ferry area. About 1779 - 1790 George, clock maker, born 1782, working in the High Street, until he died 1829, left a widow Ann. Clement, 1791 - 1860 George Hay, born 1829. watch maker, silversmith, at 178 High Street at least 1860 - 1884 ( in partnership with his brother Clement 1860 - 1873) trading as G.H. & C of Sunderland 1854. Remark: 1881 census, George H was living at 3 Ashbrook Terrace, Bishopwearmouth, Durham, occupation Jeweller & Silversmith. He was living with his wife Mary (55) and his children Mary Elizabeth(26) Jane C. (24), Clement (21) a jewellers Assistant, George H (18) a Jewelers assistant Charles J (17). He also had a cook and a housemaid. Any help would be much appreciated. Trevor Lace
