I went to Argyle House School in the first half of the 1950s. It was at the far end of Thornhill Park, on the left. It is now half way up, on the right. The uniform was green and yellow. The headmaster at the time was called Patterson or Pattinson. The school did not have its own playing fields, so we used to go to Sparks Farm in the Tunstall/Silksworth area to play football. The school sports day was held at Boldon Cricket Ground, the school being divided into three "houses", North, South and County House - I was in County. I remember once correctly answering a question in class (but only once!) and the master gave me sixpence, which I used to buy some aniseed balls. Brian
