Hello: I'm working on my cousin's maternal lines which come out of Sunderland. There are several "mariners" in her lines, according the the various census records I've found. There are also a couple of census records where the wife is head of household and listed as a mariner's wife but he apparently is at sea at the time of enumeration. Was there any special enumeration of these "missing" mariners? I'm supposing not since they may have been far away from their country. I'm pretty well-versed in United States records but have only been working with British civil registration and census records up to this point, using Ancestry and before that some census records at the LDS Family History Library at Salt Lake City.
