Good Afternoon listers, I have received a 1842 marriage certificate solemnized in the Bishopswearmouth area of Sunderland. Unfortunaltey I cannot read the name of the street where the bride lived, nor have I been able to get hold of an old map of the area. The name looks like Sword Row? Sows Row? Sors Row? Sort Row? Could anyone please help me with either of these problems, or both; purchasing an old map or this elusive name. Many thanks. Regards Marge an old map

You can enlarge it, and may perhaps find the street that you are looking for. You can also purchase a hard copy of the map from that site. Just a wild guess - could your address be Silksworth Row, abbreviated as "S'worth Row" to fit into the available space on the certificate? In the past I have found the registrars at Sunderland can be very helpful. You may find that an email to them, asking if they could examine the original certificate for you, could solve your puzzles.
